Everyone talks about how great list marketing is, but it sure is a lot of work! You've got to set up an autoresponder, develop free content to draw customers in and then get your message out where your prospects can see it! However, the old saying rings true - if it wasn't so hard, it wouldn't be worth it. The following are seven of the top reasons to focus on building an email list:

1. To Make Money

Yes, this is an obvious one - you wouldn't be interested in internet marketing if you didn't want to make money. Building a list of highly-responsive, hungry customers is one of the easiest ways to start making money online. When you take the time to build relationships with your customers and establish your role as an expert in the field, you'll find that that they reward your hard work with their checkbooks.

2. To Gain More Qualified Buyers

Some experts estimate that only 2% of people will purchase a product when they come directly from a PPC ad to a sales page. However, if you can get that person to hand over their personal information and sign up for your newsletter, that percentage can increase by as much as 30%. When people sign up for your list, they've pre-qualified themselves - you know they're interested in what you have to say. You can use this to your advantage by targeting products to the specific interests they've expressed by signing up for your list.

3. For Free Market Research

If you're thinking of putting together a new product, the easiest way to figure out what your customers want is to ask them! Set up a brief survey through any one of the free survey sites available and offer a small incentive to any member of your list who takes the time to fill it out. While other marketers are blindly cranking out products, you can use their responses to create your next product and then sell it back to them. How much easier can it get?

4. To Cut Your Advertising Dollars

Many people use pay-per-click advertising for their new product launches. And while this is a great way to drive traffic quickly, it can get expensive - especially if you're active in some of the more competitive niches. Building a list of customers can dramatically cut your advertising expenses. Suppose you're active in a niche where the average PPC cost is $.30/click. Sending your message to 1,000 list members could save you as much as $300!

5. For the JV Potential

When you have a responsive list, you'll find that other marketers want to work with you to promote their products on your list. These marketing opportunities are a great way to bring in extra revenue with minimal effort, but be careful whom you choose to do business with. Carefully review any product you plan to promote, as well as the terms of the partnership agreement.

6. To Enter New Niches with Ease

Suppose you're planning to enter a new niche related to the one you're currently in. When you have an established list, you've already got a customer base that trusts you and listens to you. You won't need to go out and spend your advertising dollars attracting new prospects - sending a simple promotional message will get you up and running quickly.

7. For the Bragging Rights

Okay - I'll admit it. Ego isn't the noblest of reasons to build a list, but it sure is a good feeling to know that you have 500, 1,000 or even more people eager to hear what you have to say.

Blog writing or blogging initially began in the form of diaries. These blog types provided personal information as in an autobiography of a person. This requires conscious writing and highlighted important aspects of a person's life, which most people would be keen in reading. This trend highly popularized the practice of blogging.

Blog Post Types:

1. Interviews: Writers often use interviews to learn more about a particular topic, they are working on. Thus, it may not include relevant information, but a general opinion of the public regarding a specific topic. Mostly, one or two questions are asked to get an overview of different responses.

2. Case Studies: It is one of the most popular types of blogs. Web sites include case studies, usually as review posts, where they add certain content information regarding their sites. Many web sites use case studies as a medium to generate income.

3. News Media: These are blogs which display illegal, incorrect, or inaccurate information. Sometimes, they take the content from a media source and make unintentional modifications and omissions.

4. Reviews: Usually, every online product or service has reviews along with it. They contain personal opinions or experiences regarding a particular product. This helps the readers to make a fair choice.

5. Corporate: Business entrepreneurs use corporate blogs to advertise their products and business processes. They update readers regarding recent projects, or services or any other modifications in business.

6. Rants: These are likely to trigger serious discussions and debates. Topics can range from political to ethical values and there are immense differences in opinions. Hence, they sometimes cause controversies, but are highly informative.

7. Spam or Splogs: Their basic purpose is to advertise commercial companies. They contain large number of links to enhance search engine results. Hence, they make use of repetitive text and keywords.

8. Critique Posts: Often mistaken as 'Attack Posts', they are aimed to criticize a particular aspect of a topic the site is advertising. However, critique blogs are mostly a result of criticism.

9. Personal: Teenagers usually, make use of personal web logs to post their anger or share some of their crucial moments and problems with distanced friends. Visitors have an access to such content and can post their opinions or suggestions on the tagboard.

10. Culture Blogs: A social organization designates bloggers to display content regarding the social aspects of a culture or cultural ethics. Here, the content is highly informal and a visitor can post an opinion, without offending any religion or culture.

Business organizations use branding, sales, relationship, collaboration and knowledge blogs, for different commercial reasons.

Inspirational, humorous, cultures, collation and problem posts are not so common types of web logs, but can bring a desirable change in thinking patterns, if used effectively.

Web Design is an exciting field for anyone with programming or graphic design skills to get into. It’s especially attractive because of the very low barrier to entry for people with a large amount of talent but not the same large amount of startup capital to start their own traditional business. Thanks to the constantly falling costs for the essentials of a web design business you can start your new career in an afternoon on the cheap.

The first thing you’ll need is your own web site on your own domain name. It seems obvious but you’d be surprised how many people either fail at this first critical step or make some bad choices along the way. Your own site will be used not only as a portfolio for any existing or future work but as a means for potential clients to contact you as well so it’s important to make a good first impression. A .com domain name only costs $10 on average so spend the money and pick a name that suits you and your business. Try and be professional but at the same time unique.

Once you have your domain name chosen and purchased you’ll need to find appropriate web hosting for not only your site but your clients as well. Again, it’s important to choose your web host wisely. There are many snake oil salesmen in this industry so you do not want to rush out and find the cheapest provider you can. For a few hundred dollars a year you can find a high quality host with lots of storage and bandwidth available.

The web host is without a doubt the single most important aspect of starting your new web design business. If you pick a host that is constantly having problems with uptime then you’ll eventually lose clients and work. That is why it’s so important to make the right decision now to avoid disaster later.

Once you purchased a domain name and found suitable hosting its time to put together your site to advertise your services. If you have previous examples of work you’ve done make sure you add them to your site. It’s important to only show the strongest pieces of your portfolio so if there are some designs or sites you’ve done in the past that you aren’t 100% proud of then leave them out. Only present your best work to potential web design clients. In addition to a portfolio, it’s critical to provide a working email address or contact form on your site so potential customers can contact you. It’s recommended that you include a phone number and postal address to help at legitimacy to your business.

Those are the three basic steps to launching a web design business. Once your site is up and running to advertise your skills and talents you need to start searching for new clients to keep the work coming in. Being a freelance web designer can be challenging but also incredibly rewarding for anyone with a passion for programming and design.

If a tree falls in the woods and no one is around does it make a sound? No, by definition to have a sound you need a person there to hear the falling tree. Same rules apply to SEO and link building. You can build the “beautiful swan” of websites, one that has rich graphics, great story telling and a topnotch user experience, but what if no one was there to visit?

Rephrasing the original question; “If you build a website that no one visits, does it exist?” The answer varies depending who you ask. If you ask the design company responsible for the beautiful website, then the answer is “yes!” If you ask a search engine optimization professional, then the answer is probably “no” because even though the site physically exists it is invisible to the online community.

Beautiful Swan Website:

The most beautiful of websites will not mean anything if you are unable to bring traffic to your site. The “beautiful swan website” is one where the focus is so wrapped up in the appearance of having a beautiful website that the purpose of the website is lost in translation. Wonderful graphics, colors and storyboarding will not mean anything if you cannot bring a person to your website and convert the person into performing a desired call to action.

Before web developers and other creative thinkers start a mob, consider the issue of a website that is purely SEO-focused.

Ugly Duckling Website:

An “ugly duckling website” also has its share of issues. These websites have no shortage of traffic, they probably rank well for targeted keywords, but their downfall is when a person ultimately visits their site they either do not perform the call to action or abandon the website. These sites typically have a lot of text; at times enough to make a creative advertising person cringe and too often grammar that brings chills to an English major.

Ugly v. Beautiful:

Which would you rather have, a beautiful website with no traffic, or an ugly website with no customer conversions? There is no correct answer to this question -- answers are a matter of personal preference. Both websites are ultimately ineffective.

Website Makeover:

If you have a website that ranks well, but does not perform because of usability, you need to seek out the advice of an experienced web design firm. For example there are many Atlanta, GA web design firms that can assist with developing the message of your website’s call to action requirements.

Beauty is in the Eye of the ROI Stakeholder:

If your site is already aesthetically pleasing, but you are finding you are not getting enough traffic and conversions then it is time to be modest. Think like an ugly duckling. Your site might not be ranking well because relies too heavily on graphics and not enough on text. If on-page text isn’t an issue, but the website is still invisible, then its time to talk link building.

The Importance of Link Building:

Want to rank for a keyword phrase? Then you need links to your site from other sites that use that targeted keyword phrase as hypertext. For example, to rank for Atlanta online marketing you need the phrase “Atlanta online marketing” linked to your site from another website. That is a major component of how search engines identify what your website is about and a major factor in how your site will be displayed in a potential customer's search results

Link building is the backbone of the Internet. The Internet is essentially a giant “web” of these interlocking links that connects one site to another. As part of an Atlanta, GA SEO agency there is an irony that can be observed with experience; some of the most beautiful sites are virtually invisible and some of the ugliest sites rank and perform well. There are many more variables into what makes a site successful than beauty alone. Beauty can help a website once a visitor arrives, but without the work of link building, that website may never get the chance to convert the customer because the customer might never have know the site existed.

Blogging is a really great and fun way to make money online. However, to be successful, you have to ensure that your blog contains certain elements. You need to find a profitable market, be interesting, be relevant, offer value and promote your blog. To learn how to turn your blogging from a fun hobby to a profitable one, keep reading. You will find 10 great tips to help you become a successful and profitable blogger.

Find a Profitable Market: In order to make money with blogging you must find a profitable market. The people in your market, don’t have to be rich, they just need to be wiling to spend some money. One way to determine this is to find out if a particular niche has a magazine, or products for sale that are targeted toward them. If so, then they are probably willing to spend money.

Be Interesting: In order for visitors to spend time at your blog and come back, your content must be interesting. Add video, quotes, audio and good entertaining information.

Be Relevant: Write about subjects that are relevant. However, stay away from solely basing your blog on trends. Trends come and go. You can certainly comment on trendy subjects, but don’t base your blog on them.

Offer Value: Offer your readers some value. Provide them with links to other sites that also have good information. Make your posts informative, funny and easy to read. Now every post that you make doesn’t have to be news worthy and serious. If your blog is supposed to be funny, a valuable post would be one that makes people laugh.

Be Consistent: Blog everyday or at least on a schedule. People should know when to expect you to update your blog. If you don’t set a schedule or are not at least consistent, people may come back to your blog a couple of times and if they don’t find anything new, they will forget about you.

Be Interactive: Be sure to interact with your readers. Respond to comments and create a dialogue. This is how you build relationships and a following.

Give Away Something Free: Give away free items every now and then. If you can purchase PLR products in your niche, give it away to your readers every now and again.

Monetize: If you want to make money with your blog, you have to monetize it. You can do so with Adsense, affiliate products or your own product.

Be Honest: If you want to gain credibility and build a long term following, you have to be honest. Don’t promote a product if you haven’t purchased it and don’t believe in it. You want your readers to trust you. If you break that trust, they will be gone. It is much harder and more expensive to attract new customers then it is to keep the ones that you already have.

Promote, Promote, Promote: Promote your blog like you would any other website. Write articles, press releases and participate in pay-per-click advertising and forums.

A New Way To Make Money With eBay. When you hear "eBay" and "money" in the same sentence your probably think of becoming an eBay seller.

You place product listings in the eBay marketplace, buyers bid, you pay your eBay seller fees and what you have left is your profit margin.

There is, however, another way to build a business which still revolves around eBay but which doesn’t involve you selling a single thing in the eBay marketplace.

This "other way" opportunity is based on the eBay affiliate program and a great tool which makes entry into this opportunity not only possible but also super easy. This tool is called "Build A Niche Store".

Now if you don’t know – an affiliate program enables you as an individual internet entrepreneur to promote the products of a company in exchange for a commission on all sales that you refer.

You are basically operating as an internet middleman and connecting internet browsers to particular products and companies through you own network of websites and marketing methods.

If we return to the eBay affiliate program, eBay actually invites you to promote all of the product listings in the eBay marketplace and in exchange for your efforts will pay you up to 75% of the revenue they make from each sale you refer plus up to $35 for each new active eBay member you refer.

What this means is that you can earn up to three quarters of eBay’s revenue simply for connecting people to the products listed in the eBay marketplace.

Not only do you get to partner with the best branded marketplace in the world, you also get access to and control over ALL of the products listed in this marketplace. The eBay product inventory becomes YOUR product inventory and yet you do NOT have to stock items, deal with customers, organize shipping or process refunds.

You are no longer limited to selling only those products which you can buy and sell for a profit margin. You can choose ANY niche market and promote those eBay products relevant to your chosen niche outside of the eBay marketplace, funnelling targeted traffic through to eBay and into your own affiliate commissions.

Golf clubs, sewing kits, laptops, dog collars, diamond rings, Florida real estate…

If you know eBay you know how BIG it is – there are NO limits.

At this point you might be thinking - well this sounds interesting but in reality is there any money in it? Well, here’s the shocker – eBay's top affiliates make over 1 million dollars a month. That’s right – 8 figures a year without stocking, selling or shipping a single thing!

Now eBay does provide some basic free tools to help you succeed as an eBay affiliate and build an affiliate business BUT it has been the development of a tool outside of eBay that has really opened this up as a legitimate business opportunity.

The tool, as I mentioned earlier, is called "Build A Niche Store" and what it enables you to do is build eBay affiliate websites targeted to any eBay niche you want. These act as the medium through which you funnel targeted visitors to eBay.

Here are a couple of examples, one targeting Race Cars and the other Golf Equipment:

Race Car eBay Affiliate Website

Golf eBay Affiliate Website

As you can see, these are professional looking websites that contain all of those eBay products related to their target niche inside a searchable store format, each of which automatically contains your eBay affiliate id.

These stores then automatically update as new products are listed for sale and old listing expire from the eBay marketplace and the software has built in development features which enable you to create new store pages, add content to these pages, create content pages, modify your template etc etc.

Basically, in the space of about 10 minutes (once you are familiar with how the software works) you can create a fully functional eBay affiliate website targeted to the niche market of your choice.

Your store content is all search engine friendly which will provide the foundation for attracting targeted traffic from the search engines and you can then use the development features to attract more targeted visitors which will in turn mean more eBay affiliate commissions.

It really is a brilliant concept and I’ve been hearing great things about the guys behind the project and the member forum which you get lifetime access to when you purchase the product.

Build A Niche Store comes with a step by step user manual which will walk even the most technically inexperienced through setting up their eBay affiliate website, 9 professional template layouts which can be customized (from inside your admin panel) to match your target niche, lifetime member forum access, comprehensive product support and possibly most importantly – an UNLIMITED domain license which means you can build as many of these niche websites as you want for the small one time fee.

Think about how many niches eBay caters to!

How big could your eBay affiliate business be?!

Ebook is the buzzword of today and it is fast becoming a potential marketing tool for your products and services. Creating an ebook is easy and inexpensive and, if promoted well, it can catapult you to the zenith of money and fame. Examples are aplenty of authors who have scripted their way to success through publishing their ebooks. The reason why some authors are more successful than others lies in the methods they follow. Here are some tips that can be useful if you want to become a successful writer.

Compile your articles:

Believe it or not, most visitors tend to visit your work more and more when you show them the compilation of your best articles. The compilation helps augment the traffic to your site and therefore, you will have higher chance to sell your products and services. Try to include useful information in your articles that will catch the fancy of your visitors.

Offer sample chapters:

The best way to make your ebook famous is to offer your visitors some sample of your chapters that are a part of your work. When you let the visitors taste the magic of your work through samples, they will be tempted to subscribe to your ebook. Samples often work wonders for your sale.

Submit to directories:

If you submit your ebook to many directories that allow visitors to download ebooks, you can increase the number of your subscribers. Ebook directories act as potential tool for increasing the number of your visitors.

Let them share:

Many successful writers often allow their subscribers to share ebooks with others. This can be easily done by allowing your visitors who download your work to pass them to their friends and other visitors who could be interested. You can also let your ebooks to be rebranded with the help of a link to your visitors` website or affiliate program.

Use it for affiliate program:

Tell your visitors that if they sign up for your affiliate program, you can allow them to use your ebooks after rebranding to promote their site with their new affiliate URLs. This is a great way to attract potential visitors to your site as your existing visitors will definitely talk to others about this great opportunity and encourage them to buy the same ebooks as well.

Offer ebooks as bonus:

You can increase the volume of your sale by offering your ebooks as bonus to your customers. It will not only increase your sale but also add to the credibility and value of your products and services. On the other hand, you can use them to promote back-end products.

Sell the reprint rights:

You can sell the reprint rights to your ebooks to people who are interested in buying and would like charge money for it. When you sell visitors the master reprints rights to your ebooks, there is a mutual benefit. While your buyers enjoy the privilege of selling the master reprints to others, you increase your profit to a great extent.

Selling ebooks is easy if you follow these techniques. However, you should also give importance to the subject matter of your work as well. If you write on topics that are of popular interest, you have won half the battle. A little bit of research is required if you want to know what people are now searching for.

Moreover, you should always remember that you should make your ebooks really accessible. Put them where successful authors are placing. This is why marketing of your ebook products is vital. Once you devise well-planned strategy for your promotion, implement it and you will definitely achieve positive results.

If for no other reason than I am a persistent observer of life I saw examples of recession marketing in the spring of 2008.

In other articles I have shared some of the reasons for recession marketing and how this form of marketing is different. To bring this into perspective let me just say that when the economy is good you will find that advertising (marketing) appeals to your sense of personal taste and desires. When the economy is poor marketing needs to center on quality and value.

One of the advertisements that vividly demonstrated that company marketers had a clear understanding that things needed to change was an advertisement for a family sized vehicle.

This advertisement talked about a better-known competitor. They pointed out that their vehicle cost several thousand dollars less than the competition. Instead of pointing out the many things a person could buy with six thousand dollars this company had grocery carts filled with food and indicated the savings on their vehicle would provide food for a family for a year.

Another advertisement deals with the phone connections between people. In this case it was the difference between VoIP and other forms of connection. The phone company that uses VoIP demonstrated a multitude of features and a price that was about a fourth of the cost of other phone competition. They further demonstrated that the competition did not provide similar features in their basic package. What they were trying to do was point out that for 25% of the cost consumers could actually find greater value.

Marketing during an economic downturn is all about siding with the people who are keenly aware they need to reduce spending or need to derive the greatest long-term value from the product being purchased.

This translates to your business website. Can you think of ways to enhance the marketing aspect of your ecommerce site to reflect your understanding of tough times and the need for value?

Subtle shifts in your marketing strategy can help align you with the mood of your potential customers. Can you find freebies you can pass along to your customers? This could be a new networking opportunity for you as you work with other businesses to promote their non-competing products by providing value added free sample as part of your customer’s orders.

The role of recession marketing shouldn’t be viewed as an attempt to fool customers into thinking your products are superior, but to point out the things that give your product or service a value that is unique and unexpected in times of financial difficulty.

Marketing is simply finding the best way to get your message out to prospects. What you may discover to be the best way today may not be the best way six months from now. You need to be flexible enough to move in a new direction when necessary. You don’t need to overplay desperate times. In fact there was absolutely nothing in the two examples above that indicated this was a response to the economy. There may not be a need to remind customers that things are bad. Simply point to the value and quality of what you offer, make the message easy to understand from a financial point of view and see if things don’t improve in online sales.

Recently, I wrote an article explaining my reasoning for choosing BANS (Build A Niche Store) as the main engine for driving my online income streams. Here, I will look closely at a number of powerful features which the BANS script includes and make suggestions for successful implementation of a BANS store.

First and foremost, there a three strong features of the BANS script and program. First, it is incredibly easy to build out store after store very quickly after you have spent some time learning the ropes.

Second, you are provided with an enormous number of products from the world's largest marketplace(Ebay)and you simply choose which subset of these products that you will sell. Third, your upfront expenses are minimal and you can reasonably start your BANS venture for less than two hundred dollars.

All right, let's look at these features in turn. I began working with BANS around April 1st and within a month I could create a functioning store in under an hour. Now this is not the product that you want the public viewing, however, after this point you will just be adding all the bells and whistles that will separate your store from all the rest.

Still, it needs repeating, in one hour(once you understand the script) you can have a store which provides an enormous selection for your visitor and then takes them into the Ebay system for a thoroughly professional buying experience(be it auction or traditional purchases).

The second powerful feature associated with BANS is the ability of the BANS script to interface with the Ebay product feed in a seamless manner and provide you with the functionality to create product feeds for different niche markets. Here, it is up to you to decide which market you want to service but the choices are nearly infinite.

The third feature which puts the BANS program head and shoulders above the others is the start-up costs involved. This, of course, is extremely important for everyone but is especially crucial for those just starting out.

Here is what you will need to spend to get started: BANS script - $97, Hosting - $8/month(provides for an unlimited amount of stores) and Domain Name - $7/year. That is it! Now, of course, you can spend more if you want, but everything else I need to use I found free on the internet. If nothing else, this amount should astonish you and points out quite clearly how little risk you need to take.

Now I will make some suggestions. Your choice of hosting service is very important especially in terms of the speed with which your website is loaded. BANS uses a database and some hosting services(such as GoDaddy) store the database on a different server from that on which the BANS script is installed. This slows down the ability of your browser to load the huge product database in a timely fashion and will hurt your visitor's shopping experience.

I have now switched to Hostgator(many others will work fine also) and the difference in loading speeds is huge. Another suggestion is to keep a notebook handy to jot down different tasks that you have performed.I can't tell you how much time this has saved me, especially when I was on that initial learning curve.

Like all good products, BANS requires a discipline and commitment that will have you working hard in order to get it right. But the payoff can be what you hoped for when you got into Internet Marketing in the first place.

It is not true that all of the good domain names are taken. You may still be able to register your name, your business name, or another catchy URL.

Here are some tips for choosing a domain name:

Keep it short and simple. Long URLs are hard to remember, and people are more likely to make errors when keying them in.

Include keywords in your domain name. Search engines may reward you with better placement in search results when the keywords are in your URL.

Whenever possible, go for the .com. Many people automatically assume that Web site URLs end in .com, and they do not correctly remember other extensions, such as .net or .info.

Try to avoid abbreviations and special characters in your domain name. gdbizcents.com would be very hard to give out without spelling it, and people won't intuitively remember or guess it.

Don’t choose a name that will be easily confused with other domains. For example, if you want to register domainname.com and find it’s taken, domain-name.com is probably not a good choice. People will confuse the two sites.

Your own name could be a good domain name, if it doesn't lend itself to lots of odd spellings. Between Cathy and Kathy, and all the ways people find to misspell Stucker, I figured no one would ever find me. That's why I came up with IdeaLady.com.

And when putting your domain name in writing: If it is multiple words, especially if it's long, consider capitalizing, such as I did here with IdeaLady.com. Make it easy to read and understand.
